The Fatso is a ’one-of-a-kind’ lure but still the Salmo boys decided to give the Fatso a lip! This lip is designed so the Fatso Crank has a unique action; special because of its shallow-running, strong side-to-side roll. As soon as you start cranking you’ll see the bulging wake that the lure creates; exactly what so many predators like. Trolling, the Fatso Crank won’t go much deeper than a metre, making it a super lure for shallow water action.

The Fatso Crank is excellent for both casting and trolling. It is a shallow-running lure that works best in depths of down to 3m. When trolling, however, the addition of extra weight makes it run much deeper. The Fatso Crank only dives to around 0.5m, making it perfect for hunting large predators in shallow water amongst submerged vegetation. You can even use it on the surface effectively, just keep the rod tip high and see how it pushes a prominent wave in front of itself, or allow it to just submerge and ’bulge’ the surface. A very effective tactic is to break the retrieve from time to time and give the lure a couple of jerks; this imitates a wounded fish and can be a very important trigger for predators.
